Toys That Have Stood the Test of Time 🧸✨

One of my favorite parts of pediatric speech therapy is getting to use toys that many of us grew up loving ourselves. There’s something so special about seeing children light up over the same games, pretend play sets, and activities that brought us joy growing up — and even better, many of these toys naturally encourage communication, imagination, problem-solving, and social interaction.

In therapy, play is so much more than just fun. Toys can help target:

• Speech sounds and articulation

• Following directions

• Vocabulary and language development

• Social communication skills

• Turn-taking and problem-solving

• Pretend play and storytelling

• Requesting, commenting, and functional communication

Some of the “throwback” toys you may spot around the clinic include classic pretend play items, board games, sensory toys, dolls, interactive activities, and other favorites that continue to engage children across generations.

There’s something really meaningful about blending nostalgia with evidence-based therapy approaches to create an environment where children feel comfortable, motivated, and excited to learn. 💚
